چکیده

It is well-known that the sensor characteristics and their physical arrangement place fundamental limitations on the ultimate capabilities of an array system. In this paper, the design of linear arrays, tailored to the so-called direction-finding (DF) algorithms, is considered. The proposed design approach is superresolution based on the differential geometry of the . The novel concept of a is array manifold sensor locator polynomial presented and its properties are investigated. Then it is shown how this concept can be applied to the design of a linear array with prespecified Cramer-Rao bounds on the azimuth estimates, without recourse to optimisation. A polynomial rooting approach to super-resolution array design

This paper is concerned with the design of super-resolution direction finding (DF) arrays that satisfy prespecified performance levels, such as detection-resolution thresholds and Cramér–Rao bounds on error variance. The sensor placement problem is formulated in the framework of subspace-based DF techniques and a novel polynomial rooting approach to the design problem, based on the new concept ...

Manifold studies of nonlinear antenna array geometries

In this paper, the manifold of a general twoor threedimensional (2-D or 3-D) array of sensors is studied using differential geometry. By considering the azimuth and elevation angles as the parameters of interest, a manifold surface is formed embedded in a multidimensional complex space. Initially, this surface is investigated by establishing a number of differential geometry parameters associat...

Optimal Sensor Location for the Estimation of a Linear Dispersive Wave Equation

The problem of optimal sensor location for the estimation of a linear dispersive wave equation is considered in this work. A steady-state Kalman filter was used as an optimal state observer with localized velocity information as the measurement. Since the main model is a partial differential equation, the states evolve in infinite-dimensional spaces, and hence an approximation (finite represent...

Design of Instrumentation Sensor Networks for Non-Linear Dynamic Processes Using Extended Kalman Filter

This paper presents a methodology for design of instrumentation sensor networks in non-linear chemical plants. The method utilizes a robust extended Kalman filter approach to provide an efficient dynamic data reconciliation. A weighted objective function has been introduced to enable the designer to incorporate each individual process variable with its own operational importance. To enhance...

Steerable frequency-invariant beamforming for arbitrary arrays

Frequency-invariant beamforming aims to parameterize array filter coefficients such that the spectral and spatial response profiles of the array can be adjusted independently. Solutions to this problem have been presented for specific sensor configurations often requiring a larger number of sensors. However, in practical applications, the number and location of sensors are often restricted. Thi...
